![]() ![]() What is it and do you feel comfortable that it is consistent? And how do you achieve the ramp rate?Ĭan you modify your program to log temperature to the IDE serial monitor? Seeing the measured temperature might be useful is determining what is going on. I see your diagram is your Mains adapter capable of the current? Do you have a different one you could try? If you have the wrong thermocouple type, then you might have a error but it would be consistent and stable. Step 1: Circuit Step 2: Library Installation Step 3: Code Overview Are you looking for a reliable temperature sensor The MAX6675 Thermocouple Module is just what you need. There is no reason to sand off the markings if it is legit, after all there is not design to guard. Haha You can use code below, or you can find this code at library example. If yours doesn't have any text on it I would suspect a fake or reject of some sort. You should be able to see the "K" on the chip itself. I can't find much else on this issue online, any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!įor example, using my last two firings and using a 05 pyrometric cone as a reference, one firing read 950☌ and the cone was bent fully (which would be about 1020☌ given my ramp) and the other at 850☌ with the cone being a complete puddle and the ceramics starting to bubble which would suggest it would be over 1200☌. Although mine is not through a computer and just usb directly to an outlet so not sure if that would also cause line-interference. In addition, your op amp is a very bad choice. Try your setup with the thermocouple at some much higher temperature, like putting it in boiling water. Since my thermocouples are of grounded type and they are physically connected to engine, If Im powering the circuit from the car battery through DC-DC converter they read zeroes only. With a K type, the voltage difference will be about 41 uV/deg C, or about 5 mV/deg C. They fixed it by unplugged and just using battery. If the thermocouple is at the same temperarature as the reference point, the thermocouple output will be 0. ![]() Does the MAX31855 need to be shielded? I did see that someone was having issues with line-interference when powering their arduino through a usb cord on their laptop while it was charging. I’ve tried a few things to try and fix it such as moving the protoboard with all my components on it away from the kiln a few feet and putting it in a “heat resistant” container, as well as, turning off the wifi connection on the microcontroller to stop any interference it may be causing with the MAX31855. The thermocouple reads within 1-2☌ when compared to 2 kitchen thermometers between 0-100☌ but at higher temperatures seems to be way off causing overfiring. Type K Thermocouple - These can come in a variety of forms MAX31855K Breakout Board To connect the breakout to the microcontroller, you will likely want some male headers, or you could use a few pieces. My code uses this linearization code found on adafruit site to correct the thermocouple temperature Maxim 31855 Thermocouple Linearization | Calibrating Sensors | Adafruit Learning System. A 3.3V Arduino board such as our 3.3V Arduino Pro Mini, or another microcontroller running at 3.3V or any with a logic level converter or two. ![]()
